ART-2740 Modern Art Credits 3 Art 2740 is an introduction of art and architecture from the late 19th century to Postmodernism. Visual arts from traditional works to conceptual, installation, video, and performance art are analyzed in terms of style, iconography, and technique as well as political, social, and economic significance. The history and philosophy of the various movements and their relationship to contemporary thought and culture are explored. Prerequisite(s): Reading Proficiency. 3 class hours. Note: This is not a Gen Ed course (Not offered summer.)
Course Outcomes
- Identify selected works - from late 19th century to Postmodernism - according to their style, iconography, and technique.
- Analyze the function and meaning of an art object in its cultural context.
- Distinguish how a work of art reflects elements of the historical and cultural period in which it was produced.
- Compare and contrast selected works produced in different periods and cultures from late 19th century to Postmodernism.
