CJT-1510 Introduction to Criminal Justice

A survey of the history, philosophy and social development of police, courts and corrections in a democratic society. Identification and operations of local, state and federal agencies will be covered with criminal justice career orientation.
Prerequisite(s): Reading proficiency.
Course Outcomes
  1. Describe the purpose and function of the three main components of the criminal justice system: law enforcement, courts and corrections.
  2. Discuss the historical development of policing and criminal law in the United States.
  3. Identify the potential causes and the ways of measuring crime.
  4. Explain the steps of the criminal justice process, from entry through release.
