CJT-2540 Criminal Evidence and Procedure

An examination of the principles and techniques of criminal procedure employed during trials to determine the admissibility of physical and testimonial evidence. An analysis of laws and court decisions relating to admissibility is emphasized.
Prerequisite(s): Reading Proficiency
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Discuss underlying principles of the rules of evidence and the ways in which they work to ensure reliability.
  2. List the steps of a criminal prosecution from arrest to appeal.
  3. Analyze the ways in which the rules of criminal procedure effectuate the guarantees made by the United States Constitution.
  4. Evaluate evidentiary and procedural strategies and tactics for trial and appeal.
