EGL-2070 American Literature from the Late 19th Century to the Present Credits 3 American literature from the Civil War to the present and its social and intellectual background. Prerequisite(s): EGL-1020 , EGL-1100 , EGL-1320 , or EGL-1340 . (Not offered summer.)
Course Outcomes
- Identify major authors and examine works of the period from the Civil War to the present, applying literary terms and concepts.
- Analyze important literary forms and movements, and place specific works in their contexts.
- Explain how the social and intellectual climate has influenced the themes of recent American literature.
- Explain how literature reflects basic themes in American cultural history.
- Apply at least one critical approach to reading and analyzing a text in an essay using documented sources.
