A survey of African-American literature from the early 1900s to the present.
Prerequisite(s): EGL-1020 , EGL-1100 , EGL-1320 , or EGL-1340 .
(Not offered summer.)

Course Outcomes
  1. Construct and interpret the relationship between 20th century African-American writers and 18th and 19th century writers.
  2. Explain how the social and intellectual climate has influenced the themes of recent African-American literature.
  3. Apply literary and critical terminology and concepts, demonstrating their use in understanding and appreciating African-American literature.
  4. Write analysis-driven essays that critique varied texts, and a research-style paper that utilizes additional documented sources.
