ESL-0081 English as a Second Language: Basic Reading Skills Credits 0 Equivalent Hours 4 For nonnative speakers of English whose reading ability is minimal. - Identify the main idea of a beginning reading text.
- Locate specific information in a beginning reading text.
- Infer the meaning of unfamiliar words by using context clues.
- Use text markers to infer meaning in an intermediate reading text.
- Use target vocabulary in a meaningful context.
- Identify the number of syllables and primary word stress in target vocabulary.
