ESL-0201 English as a Second Language: Composition Credits 0 Equivalent Hours 4 For nonnative speakers who have a good command of English. Focus on paragraph-length compositions and complex grammar and sentence structures. Prerequisite(s): ESL-0102 with a grade of C or higher, or placement by exam. Formerly ESL-2010 and ESL-201. - Use the writing process to produce paragraphs of appropriate length that demonstrate unity of ideas on academic topics.
- Respond to prompts using appropriate rhetorical patterns with appropriate signal vocabulary.
- Write simple, compound, complex, and compound/complex sentences.
- Write or type paragraphs using standard format and mechanics.
- Edit paragraphs for grammatical and mechanical errors.
