FRN-1020 French for Advanced Beginners

FRN-1020 is a second-semester French class that focuses on skills development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing French, along with cultural elements from the francophone world. Students learn vocabulary about a variety of topics, such as food and drink, pastimes, travel, obligations and needs, etc. Students communicate in sentences, using present and past tense. Additionally, students apply their grammar and vocabulary knowledge to write a simple paragraph in French. Lastly, students examine various examples of culture and civilization in the French-speaking world and reflect on the similarities and differences to their own culture.  NOTE: Students with two years of high school French or equivalent need to contact the Academic Coordinator of Foreign Languages to determine eligibility for this course.
Course Outcomes
 

  1. Communicate in spoken French in the present tense and past (passé composé) using everyday expressions and elementary vocabulary. 
  2. Listen to elementary French in the present tense and past (passé composé) for comprehension. 
  3. Read elementary French in the present tense and past (passé composé) for comprehension. 
  4. Write a topical paragraph in French, using present tense and past (passé composé)
  5. Examine examples of culture and civilization in the francophone world.
