This course surveys the history of Europe and of Europe’s encounters with the rest of the world from the Renaissance to the outbreak of World War I. The course examines the political, economic, and cultural developments that shaped and defined the modern Western world. 
Course Outcomes
  1. Discuss the main cultural and intellectual developments that defined early modern European history.
  2. Discuss the main economic developments that defined early modern European history.
  3. Discuss the main political developments that defined early modern European history.
  4. Analyze primary sources in their historical context.
  5. Identify basic historical arguments in secondary sources.
  6. Construct justifiable historical arguments based on evidence from primary and secondary sources.
