HST-1370 The World in the Twentieth Century

A comparative survey of the major developments in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas during the past century that have led to the formation of the modern world.
(Not offered summer.)

Course Outcomes
  1. Analyze 19th century imperialism and its influence on early 20th century geographical, political, and cultural transformations in the world.
  2. Analyze the origins and aftermath of World Wars I and II, and how those wars affected various world regions economically, politically, and socially.
  3. Analyze cultural and political shifts in the world that led to and resulted from the rise and fall of communism between the 1920s and 1980s.
  4. Discuss the factors that lead to the rise of the “Third World” in the 20th century.
  5. Analyze the factors that were most significant in defining a “new world order” at the beginning of the 21st century.
