INT-1550 Introduction to Networks- Network Plus Prep

An overview of local area networks including installation and operation of a computer network from the physical as well as the software and user perspective. Students will design, build, and test working networks and associated wiring. Emphasis will be placed on LAN hardware, software, standards, and protocols. Helps prepare students for the CompTIA Network+ certification exam.
Prerequisite(s): INT-1010 or permission of department chair.
2 lecture/2 lab hours.
Course Outcomes

Choose the appropriate media for a LAN, making sure that it meets the relevant standards.
Identify components of a LAN including cabling, networking equipment, servers and workstations.
Determine the appropriate command-line utilities to monitor and troubleshoot network problems.
Select the appropriate ports and protocols.
Identify a comprehensive system of a LAN: IP addresses, including subnet addresses, host addresses, broadcast addresses, and subnet masks.
Identify critical security concepts.
Identify cloud computing models and best practices.
Identify hardware virtualization techniques.
