INT-1700 Understanding Operating Systems Credits 3 This course provides basic working knowledge of computer operating system concepts, commands, functions and management using popular operating systems. Topics include: memory management, process management, device management, file management, basic networking, cloud computing and virtualization, and operating system deployment, management, and maintenance tools. This course introduces command structures and explores operations using command line shells and scripting tools. Students will demonstrate proficiency by completing various task-related laboratory assignments. . Prerequisite(s): INT-1010 concurrent or prerequisite 2 class/2 lab hours. Course Outcomes
- Describe the main components, functions, and classifications of operating systems.
- Analyze policies and algorithms used in memory management and processor management sub-systems.
- Apply file management principles.
- Use a command-line shell or any scripting language to complete basic administrative tasks.
- Apply principles and tools of device management to input/output devices.
- Apply storage, virtualization, and cloud computing technologies and tools.
- Apply principles of network configuration, shared resources, and group accounts to modern systems.
- Apply system management, maintenance, and security principles.
