PSY-2040 Adolescent Psychology Credits 3 Physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and moral development of the adolescent, including discussion of different phases of adolescence. Prerequisite(s): PSY-1010 Course Outcomes
- Apply the concepts and major theoretical perspectives in developmental psychology, including the biological, psychodynamic, behavioral and sociocultural.
- Explain the physical, cognitive, social, emotional and moral changes that occur during the different phases of adolescence.
- Contrast research methods used by developmental psychologists to study adolescence as a developmental period of the life span, including descriptive, experimental, cross-sectional, longitudinal and cross-sequential research designs.
- Explain the period of adolescence from various social contexts: contemporary society, education, peer relationships, workplace and family entities.
- Apply ethical principles used to protect minors “best interest of the child” status.
- Distinguish the period of adolescence from various multicultural and cross-cultural perspectives.
- Use information literacy skills to conduct research and produce individual/group papers, projects and presentations relevant to adolescent psychology.
