COM-1110 Public Speaking Credits 3 Credits Development of public speaking skills. Humanities general education class. Prerequisite(s): Reading and oral proficiencies or ESL-0106 (formerly ESL-1060) with a grade of C or higher. Formerly Formerly SPH-1110 . Students may not receive credit for both SPH-1110 and COM-1110. Course Outcomes
- Explain the principles and techniques which build confidence in the art of public speaking for a global community with respect to diversity.
- Apply active listening skills regarding an audience’s reactions and the speaker’s adaptation to that audience’s responses.
- Organize the requisite research on a speech topic integrating it into an appropriate format, such as a digital outline, in response to various speech delivery environments
- Differentiate the components of speech delivery, in conjunction with various modes of presentation and subsequent presentation aids
- Perform different public speaking techniques through multimodal speeches
- Critique different public speaking techniques regarding delivering multimodal speech types
