HLE-2520 Prevention and Community Health

This course provides an overview of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in relationship to community health.  Course content includes:  Methods of implementation, risk assessment, prevention through the life-cycle, and evidence-based recommendations.  Social-economic, cultural, and religious impacts on prevention and treatment of disease are considered.
Course Outcomes
  1. Explain the importance of health at the individual, group and community levels.
  2. Compare/contrast the foundational principles of health.
  3. Summarize the roles and functions of a health educator.
  4. Categorize the theories of health promotion programs.
  5. Evaluate different sources of health information for validity and reliability. 
  6. Recognize innovative and future health education issues.
