MAT-0114C Principles for Introduction to Statistics Credits 0 Equivalent Hours 2 Principles for Introduction to Statistics is a quantitative literacy-based corequisite course designed to provide the skills and conceptual understanding to succeed in the accompanying linked college-level MAT-1140 Introduction to Statistics course. Students will learn the prerequisite materials and get support for the corresponding linked credit level course MAT-1140. Essential skills and concepts include interpreting data, probability, estimation, hypothesis testing, and linear regression.
Principles for Introduction Statistics does not satisfy General Education Mathematics requirement. Prerequisite(s): Math placement score or grade of C or higher in MAT-0071 . Reading proficiency. Course Outcomes
- Discover quantitative data using graphs and descriptive statistics with emphasis on histograms and boxplots.
- Discover measures of expectation and variation for a discrete probability distribution.
- Discuss probability for a binomial and normal distribution.
- Discuss calculations to estimate parameters using confidence intervals based on the normal distribution and t-distribution.
- Describe hypotheses testing involving a sample mean, proportion, and standard deviation/variance.
- Describe hypotheses testing involving two sample means (independent and dependent), two population proportions, and two standard deviations/variances.
- Identify linear regression models and correlation coefficients from datasets.
