Program Description


This degree program is designed to articulate with four-year postsecondary institutions within the state of Maryland and private institutions. Students will be advised to consult the specific requirements of the bachelor’s degree program to which they wish to transfer. Credit for previous relevant coursework and/or relevant experience may be awarded.

Graduates of the Sciences, Engineering, and Mathematics (SEM) Concentration A.A. will be able to:

  • Perform mathematical calculations using trigonometry, differentiation, and integration
  • Solve stoichiometric problems and balance chemical equations
  • Predict chemical reactivity of atoms and molecules
  • Explain the key principles of modern evolutionary theory and its importance throughout the field of biology
  • Investigate natural phenomena through experimentation, using the scientific method
  • Model and solve real-world problems using fundamentals of calculus, chemistry, and biology

Below are the required courses for your program arranged in the required sequence, which can be altered after discussion with the student’s advisor. Please note that the sequence does not include developmental coursework. See Academic Preparation  for the developmental course sequence if applicable to you.

Program Total: 60 Credits


Transferability


Credit earned at any public institution in the state shall be transferable to any other institution if the:

  • Credit is from a college or university parallel course or program;
  • Grades in the block of courses transferred average 2.00 or higher; and
  • Acceptance of the credit is consistent with the policies of the receiving institution governing students following the  same program. Refer to ARTSYS at artweb.usmd.edu and the receiving institution’s catalog to select transferable courses.
