HIM-1505 Healthcare Delivery Systems Credits 2 This course is designed to introduce the student to health information requirements in settings other than acute care. Content will include accreditation, regulations, and reimbursement mechanisms as they relate to facilities such as hospice, home health, skilled and intermediate care, ambulatory care, mental health centers, dialysis, rehabilitation, managed care, correctional, dental, veterinary, and consulting. Prerequisite(s): HIM-1500 . (Offered spring only.)
Course Outcomes
- List the types of services provided by non-acute health care settings.
- Compare/contrast the data and information requirements specified by the JC and federal regulations for various healthcare settings (i.e. ambulatory care, long-term care, etc).
- Compare/contrast the advantages and disadvantages of applying concepts of managed care to patients, hospitals, and other care providers.
- Summarize how ambulatory health care organization is structured in the United States.
- Identify types of care and care settings associated with sub-acute care.
