MAT-1250 Applied College Algebra Credits 3 This course emphasizes real world applications of algebra and is intended primarily for students who are not majoring in a scientific or technical field. Students will solve equations and inequalities and model data with a variety of functions algebraically and with technological tools. Other topics include analyzing polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions; solving systems of linear equations with matrices; matrix algebra; and linear programming. Prerequisite(s): Appropriate mathematics placement, or completion of MAT-0104 /1040 with grade of C or higher. Corequisite(s): MAT-0125C only as needed. 3 class/1 rec. hr. Course Outcomes
- Analyze polynomial, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions.
- Perform algebraic operations and compositions with functions.
- Model data with polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions.
- Solve polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic equations and inequalities analytically and graphically.
- Solve systems of linear equations analytically and graphically.
- Apply linear programming methods to problems from the areas of life sciences, social sciences, business, and economics.
- Represent real-world situations with matrices.
