HIM-1550 Disease Processes

This course focuses on the basic concepts of health and disease: etiology, incidence, and treatment of illness. Includes pharmacology as it relates to disease processes.
Prerequisite(s): HIM-1500 , HIM-1530 .
(Offered spring only.)

Course Outcomes
  1. Identify concepts of the disease processes.
  2. Identify the process of pathophysiology as related to the various clinical manifestations and treatment.
  3. Compare/contrast the major categories of diseases.
  4. Use medical language to classify general disease concepts.
  5. List risk factors, predisposition and prevention factors of diseases.
  6. Summarize the health information practitioner’s role in areas of technical expertise related to coding of diagnosis, procedures, and statistical reporting in acute and non-acute settings.
