HIM-1550 Disease Processes Credits 4 This course focuses on the basic concepts of health and disease: etiology, incidence, and treatment of illness. Includes pharmacology as it relates to disease processes. Prerequisite(s): HIM-1500 , HIM-1530 . (Offered spring only.)
Course Outcomes
- Identify concepts of the disease processes.
- Identify the process of pathophysiology as related to the various clinical manifestations and treatment.
- Compare/contrast the major categories of diseases.
- Use medical language to classify general disease concepts.
- List risk factors, predisposition and prevention factors of diseases.
- Summarize the health information practitioner’s role in areas of technical expertise related to coding of diagnosis, procedures, and statistical reporting in acute and non-acute settings.
